Matt Parker

Matt Parker is a tenor and soprano saxophone player, born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. After seeing trumpeter Maynard Ferguson in concert, he fell in love with jazz and was mentored by the legendary South Florida saxophonist Jimmy Cavallo. Parker played professionally as a teenager in New Orleans before moving to New York to study with Jane Ira Bloom, Barry Harris, and Junior Mance. Later, Parker would go on to play in Maynard’s band Big Bop Nouveau for two years and is on the album “MF Horn VI: Live At Ronnie’s” (2006).

He later attended Florida A&M and Florida State Universities where received degrees in music. Jay continues to share his God given talent with audiences throughout Florida and the southeast United States. Jay has performed alongside various artists and bands on small to large stages. Jay currently resides in Tampa, Florida where he is a member of local band and fan favorite, The Beatdown Band. He continues to perform a smooth, captivating blend of jazz, soul, R&B, gospel and blues-influenced music for diverse audiences.

Born in Maracaibo Venezuela, on January 1982, he graduated from the Cecilio Acosta Catholic University with a degree in Musicology and pursued musical studies at the José Luis Paz Conservatory of Music in Maracaibo Venezuela, in Clarinet, Solfeggio, Harmony, History of Complementary Music, and Piano. Winner of several awards and recognitions, such as the Mara de Oro International Award for the Saxophonist with the greatest national and international projection in 2018. He has worked with major Venezuelan and international artists. He currently resides in Miami, Florida, and is dedicated to his solo project.
